Juan Laurel Inks 8 Year Deal

Announced today in Birmingham 26 year old First Baseman Juan Laurel has inked an 8 year $46.64 million dollar contract with the Bandits comming out to $5.83 million per season. So far this season Laurel is hitting .320 with 35 HR's and 108 RBI's. The deal inks there MVP for 8 more season and helps them concentrate on other important thing in getting there pitching staff solidified. " We are happy that Juan was willing to work with us and sign on the dotted line to keep him a Bandit for most of his career" said General Manager Jason Amaya.

So far in his 3 seasons in the USBA Laurel has a career .320 Batting average with 87 HR's and 329 RBI's and slugging a cool .546, and also a .384 OBP....read more.

Former 4th Round Pick Gets Shot at 35

NEW ORLEANS - 35 year-old pitcher, Alex Carrasquillo will finally have the chance to do what he dreamed about way back in 1993 when he was a fourth round pick by the Cajuns, suit up for a major league game. The Phoenix Scorchers defeated the Philadelphia Mavericks 12-3 yesterday in a game that featured John Sims's 500th career home run.

In the clubhouse, the Scorchers left fielder spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?"

On his historic day, Sims banged out 2 hits in 4 at-bats and scored 2 runs with 1 run batted in.

Ibanez Chases History

BOSTON - While John Sims chases 500 in the desert, Bernardo Ibanez chases a feat almost as scarce.

Currently, he is only two home runs from becoming the second player in USBA history to reach the 400/400 plateau. Detroit's Ron Buckwalter was the first to reach the milestone last year, now Ibanez trying to join him. So far this season Ibanez has hit 10 HR and stolen 8 bases to bring his totals to 398 and 508.

Sims Nearly Homerun King…Sets Sights on Milestone

This past week the 36 year old John Sims tied Cody Tobin by hitting his 493rd homerun. He may be only one homerun of taking the all-time lead by himself, but he is squarely in position to hit the 500 mark. Sims has been well traveled over the years spending time in Philadelphia, New York, L.A., and now where he resides in Phoenix. Sims signed a 1 year deal with the Scorchers with a price tag of $6.5 million.
