| Breaking News | | Friday, May 27th, 2011: 5-5 Day for St. Laurent Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Martians Ballpark when Rodrigo St. Laurent of Santa Fe scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Little Rock Lumberjax.
He was down and a little subdued with mixed feelings in the postgame interview. "It was a good day for me, but not a good day for the Aztecs. The bottom line in baseball is to win. We didn't do it today," he told the press after the game.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career day performance, but it was the Lumberjax, who won the ballgame 15-7.
However, the catcher of the Aztecs did have this to say: "My swing was really, really there today. I made some good, solid contact and when that happens... good things happen. Sure, 5-5 and losing is better than going 0-5 and losing. I'll take 2-4 and a win and be overjoyed. I ain't greedy."
R. St. Laurent doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
For 2011 St. Laurent is batting .235 with 1 home run, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored. | | Friday, April 22nd, 2011: Overby Fires No-Hitter Little Rock's Chuck Overby came up big today at Hot Rods Ballpark with an exceptional 7-0 outing against the Santa Fe Aztecs. Not only did he whip them, but Overby held them hitless, too. He brought his "A stuff" to the ballpark, finishing with 12 strikeouts and 5 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the league record book.
"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Overby. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game... and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."
Then he added, "Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter. We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. At least the batters are happy with that kind of win. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up 9 runs, though. But hey, a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. This kept the Aztecs off balance and guessing the whole game."
| | Sunday, April 17th, 2011: Knight Dominates Santa Fe Jason Knight scattered 3 hits in going the distance in the Cook County 5-0 victory over the Santa Fe Aztecs at Boomerangs Ballpark. The 18-year-old Knight whiffed 2 and allowed 1 walk in the game.
