| Breaking News | | Vázquez Red-Hot, PaL Player of the Week Monday, July 20th, 2020: Jorge Vázquez burst onto the Patriot League stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie left fielder for Washington garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 25-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .370 (10-27) with 3 home runs and 8 RBIs last week.
Vázquez is hitting .302 for the season with 19 home runs, 46 RBIs and 43 runs scored. He has 76 hits in 252 at-bats and played in 64 games. | | PiL Player of the Week Named Monday, July 20th, 2020: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Miguel Medine was rewarded with the Pioneer League Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Honolulu Sharks first baseman hit .500 while collecting 14 hits in 28 at-bats, 1 home run and 5 RBIs.
This year Medine is batting .298 with 97 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 46 times and has batted in 48 runs. | | van Burgersdijk Must Sit Out 2 Games Wednesday, July 15th, 2020: The Virginia Beach Stingrays were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Uniontown at Mountaineers Ballpark. One in particular -- Remie van Burgersdijk. Upon being called out on strikes, the Stingrays third baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled van Burgersdijk lingered on the field for another five minutes, berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when van Burgersdijk told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in Braille, so he can follow along."
For his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended van Burgersdijk for 2 games.
van Burgersdijk's current batting average stands at .218 and he has chalked up 1 home run and 18 RBIs. | | | | | Yesterday's Games - Pioneer League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Ivy Ridge | Lubbock | 8-5 | 1:05 pm | W.Payne (5-4, 4.05 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Roanoke | Honolulu | 9-7 | 2:05 pm | A.Medina (2-2, 3.42 ERA) | M.Vega (4-7, 4.63 ERA) | | Peoria | Piscataway | 9-4 | 7:05 pm | E.Valentín (7-2, 3.16 ERA) | K.Robinson (10-6, 4.80 ERA) | | Guam | Surfside | 7-3 | 3:05 pm | L.Greene (4-1, 2.33 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Indianapolis | Huntington | 3-7 | 1:05 pm | J.Clemente (4-3, 4.09 ERA) | R.Sánchez (3-9, 5.15 ERA) | | Burlington | South Bend | 1-4 | 2:05 pm | H.Woodford (5-8, 4.41 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Yesterday's Games - Patriot League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Uniontown | Washington | 4-6 | 1:05 pm | M.Miller (10-5, 4.07 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Portland | Silicon Valley | 3-9 | 7:05 pm | B.Williams (6-2, 3.89 ERA) | J.O'Mulledy (6-6, 5.01 ERA) | | Edinburgh | Virginia Beach | 11-4 | 7:05 pm | E.Jones (2-0, 3.53 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Malibu | Barrow | 4-6 | 1:05 pm | T.Jones (10-3, 3.49 ERA) | V.Zamora (6-7, 4.55 ERA) | | Carolina | Ft.
