Wichita fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Roman Golightly won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 2-year extension at a pay rate of $2,880,000 per annum.
Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Wichita officials had to keep Golightly from jumping ship.
Since breaking into the league, Golightly has compiled a 36-35 mark, pitched in 506 games, been credited with 73 saves and amassed a 4.44 ERA. He has 535 strikeouts in 609.2 innings pitched.

 | Friday, September 25th, 2009: Ibarra Tags Wizards 5 Hits
"It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said Javier Ibarra after his 5-hit performance against the Wizards. "No offense meant to Fort Wayne, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Gassmann Field on the Bend!"
The Wichita third baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and pacing his club to a 15-4 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "Javier worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Ibarra said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
J. Ibarra singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
In the 2009 season Ibarra is hitting .285 with 32 home runs.

 | Friday, September 11th, 2009: Jason Hammond Hits #300
Chicago's outstanding left fielder Jason Hammond joined the 300 Club today at Lake Side Park with a booming blast in the Racers win over the Gamblers. They topped Wichita 8-2.
On his milestone day Hammond had 2 hits in 2 at-bats with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."
Lifetime Hammond has played in 1514 games with a .278 batting average. Among his 1479 hits are 235 doubles, 11 triples and 300 home runs. He also has scored 795 runs and driven in 915 runs.
