The Gulf Coast Privateers struggled at the plate today against Slayers hurler Kozue Nakamura, who shackled them on 4 hits while hurling a complete game 2-0 shutout.
"What can you say? We didn't hit well," said the Privateers skipper in his postgame comments.
"Hopefully we shake this off and bounce back tomorrow."
Nakamura finished the game with no strikeouts and 1 walk in an excellent mound performance.
"He pitched real well," his manager said. "Kozue made pitches when he had to. He hit his spots and did a great job of mixing in his changeup and using his fastball effectively."
So far this year Nakamura has 12 wins and 3 losses and a 3.29 ERA.

 | Monday, June 7th, 2010: Player of the Week: Gulf Coast First Baseman
19-year-old Julian Brown made a few Gulf Coast headlines during this past week as the rookie first baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and United League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 8 hits in 11 at-bats to put up a .727 average. Brown collected no home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 5 runs.
To date this year Brown is batting .347 with 2 home runs.

 | Sunday, May 16th, 2010: 2-Game Suspension for Privateers Rowe
Gulf Coast left fielder Alonso Rowe was ejected in the game between the Privateers and Blue Demons for letting loose a profanity-laced tirade against the home plate umpire after some calls didn't go the way he wanted. Rowe was incensed in the 1-1 loss to Myrtle Beach and was just as angry after the game.
"These guys are a joke. How can people expect to take this game seriously when you have games like this?" Rowe said in the locker room after the game.
Now Rowe must face the consequences of this actions. League officials released this brief statement to the media: "We are regretful that Rowe has taken this to the level that it has reached. The league will not tolerate this type of conduct. Due to his actions during and after the game, the league is suspending him for 2 games."
This year Rowe is hitting .260, produced 8 RBIs and 0 home runs, scored 18 times and gotten on base at a .321 rate.
